Conditions
Since even the slightest breeze can sway most flowers, try for calm conditions
- Mornings are more likely to be calm
- Try sheltered locations
- Put the flower in a vase and move it to a sheltered location or a sunny room
- Stake or support the branch or flower stem
Know when the flowers look best:
Do they wilt in the heat or only fully open mid day?
- Do blooms last for hours or days?
Lighting
Be careful of:
Bright, sunny days (can create too much contrast)
- Hours around noon (overhead light can flatten photographs)
Try:
Mornings / evenings (side light can provide interesting shadows and highlights)
- Overcast days (can enhance and smooth colors)
Look for sun angles that emphasize color or texture:
Sidelight often emphasizes texture and form
- Backlight can make thinner petals glow
